Meaning: “Adar the king” or “Magnificent king”
This is the name of a false-god and a prince:
Adrammelech, an idol and false god associated with child sacrifice
This was a form of the sun-god worshipped by the inhabitants of Sepharvaim (2 Kings 17:31), and brought by the Sepharvite colonists into Samaria.
The Sepharvite burned their children as offerings to this idol (2 Kings 17:31 NKJV).
