Doeg

Meaning: fearful

This was the name of a biblical man, who was an Edomite and the chief of King Saul’s shepherds (1 Sam. 21:7). He was an antagonist of David.

At the command of Saul, Doeg killed the high priest Ahimelech at Nob, together with 85 priests (1 Sam. 22:18). (Compare Psalm 52, title.)
