Hanoch (Henoch)

Meaning: Dedicated

This was the name of three biblical men:

  1. One of the sons of Midian, who was Abraham’s son by Keturah (Genesis 25:4).

  2. The oldest son of Reuben, the oldest son of Jacob (1 Chronicles 5:3). Hanoch became the head of a tribal family called the Hanochites in Numbers 26:5.

  3. Henoch (named in King James Version), son of Jared, was one of the pre-flood patriarchs listed in Chronicles. He is the father of Methuselah (1 Chronicles 1:3). He is more commonly known as Enoch.
