Meaning: Merodach has given a son

This was the name of two Biblical men.

  1. Merodach-baladan, a Chaldean chief

    He is mentioned in Isaiah 39:1.

    “the hereditary chief of the Chaldeans, a small tribe at that time settled in the marshes at the mouth of the Euphrates, but in consequence of his conquest of Babylon afterwards, they became the dominant caste in Babylonia itself”

  2. Merodach-Baladan, a Babylonian king

    His father was Baladan.

    Merodach-Baladan sent ambassadors to King Hezekiah (721 BC).

    He is also called Berodach-Baladan, and in Akkadian Marduk-apla-iddina II.

    At that time Berodach-baladan a son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick. —2 Kings 20:12
