Peacocks in the Bible
Hebrew: tuk, apparently borrowed from the Tamil: tokei
This bird is indigenous to India. It was brought to Solomon by his ships from Tarshish (1 Kings 10:22; 2 Chronicles 9:21), which in this case was probably a district on the Malabar coast of India, or in Ceylon.
The Hebrew word רֶנֶ translated in Job 39:13 KJV literally means wild, tumultuous crying, cry of joy, or rejoicing, and properly denotes the female ostrich. However, the King James Version translated it as “peacock”.
Modern translations say ostrich.
The wings of the ostrich wave proudly,
But are her wings and pinions like the kindly stork’s? —Job 39:13 NKJV
The ostriches’ wings flap joyously
But are they the pinion and plumage of a stork? —Job 39:13 LSB
