Shimea

also known as: Shimeah (2 Sam. 13:3), Shammah (1 Sam. 17:13), Shimei and Shimma (1 Chronicles 2:13)

Meaning: Splendor; something heard; the hearing prayer (from a root word meaning: “to hear”)

Shimea was the name of four biblical men:

  1. one of David's brothers (1 Sam. 16:9, marginal note)

  2. one of David's sons by Bathsheba (1 Chr. 3:5), also called Shammua (14:4)

  3. a Levite of the family of Merari (1 Chr. 6:30)

  4. another Levite of the family of Gershon (1 Chr. 6:39)
