“Keep your enemies close”

Here’s what the distributor says about their film: “In THE DOUBLE, the mysterious murder of a US senator bearing the distinctive trademark of the legendary Soviet assassin ‘Cassius,” forces Paul Shepherdson (Richard Gere), a retired CIA operative, to team with rookie FBI agent, Ben Geary (Topher Grace), to solve the crime.

Having spent his career chasing Cassius, Shepherdson is convinced his nemesis is long dead, but is pushed to take on the case by his former supervisor, Tom Highland (Martin Sheen). Meanwhile, Agent Geary, who wrote his Master’s thesis on Shepherdson’s pursuit of the Soviet killer, is certain that Cassius has resurfaced. As Shepherdson and Geary work their way through crimes both past and present, they discover that Cassius may not be the person they always thought him to be, forcing both to re-examine everything and everyone around them.

A taut espionage thriller, THE DOUBLE stars Richard Gere, Topher Grace, Martin Sheen, Stephen Moyer, Odette Yustman, and Stana Katic. Written by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, the team behind ‘Wanted’ and ‘3:10 To Yuma,’ the film also represents Brandt’s directorial debut.”

Positive—This movie was okay. I liked it enough to rent it again someday. I did not see the big reveal coming at the end, so when a movie surprises, it’s good enough for me!
My Ratings: Moral rating: Better than Average / Moviemaking quality: 4

Positive—Overall, “The Double” is a good movie. From the beginning, we were watching every detail to guess what the outcome would be, and the suspense and action kept us engaged to the very end. There is too much bad language, however. We do not like to watch movies that use God’s name in vain and counted 6 G-Ds, 2 uses of Jesus” name, with other profanity sprinkled throughout. We would not have chosen this movie if we had found a review that informed us of the fact that God’s name is used in vain, simply because this is a personal commitment of our family.

There is no nudity or sexuality in this movie, except for one brief scene with a prostitute in scanty clothing. There is a lot of cold-blooded murder, though not a lot of blood. There is nothing in this movie that would bring anyone closer to God, and it is not inspirational. Because of these negatives, I would not recommend this movie to viewers younger than 14, but mature minded viewers will definitely enjoy the suspense.
