What is
tabering
also known as: tabor or taber —meaning to strike or beat as on a tabor
This Middle English word means to play on a small drum called a tabor (taber, tabour, or tabret).
The word “tabering” only appears in the King James Version of Nahum 2:7. It is referring to beating on one’s breast, similar to the way players beat on the tabret.
…and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts. —Nahum 2:7 KJV excerpt
The New King James Version says,
…And her maidservants shall lead her as with the voice of doves,
Beating their breasts.
NASB version:
And her handmaids are moaning like the sound of doves,
Beating on their breasts.
