Who is…
Tibni
Tibni is a son of Ginath, probably a man of some importance, but no other information is provided about Ginath in Scripture. A possible brother named Joram (or Jehoram) is mentioned only in the Septuagint version of 1 Kings 16:22, who supported him and died simultaneously. No other relatives, such as wife, children, or further ancestors/descendants, are recorded in the Bible.
Tibni was chosen as monarch by a considerable number of the people of the northern Kingdom of Israel during the 800s BC. The rest of the people supported Omri, a military commander.
For a period of 4 years of civil war, Tibni reigned over more than half of the kingdom, while he contended for the throne with Omri (1 Kings 16:21, 22), who eventually overwhelmed Tibni, and became sole monarch of Israel.
