Christian film distributor drops recent Joshua Harris documentary

Exploration Films halts distribution of “I Survived I Kissed Dating Goodbye” saying Joshua Harris “lacked transparency to partners” before public statements

What if your views on sex and relationships as a 21-year-old influenced millions?

August 28, 2019

Exploration Films announced Monday that they will end their roll in distribution of the documentary film featuring Josh Harris, “I Survived I Kissed Dating Goodbye” (ISIKDG). The film will remain available on some platforms. The rights will be returned to filmmaker Jessica Van Der Wyngaard.

The news comes weeks after Harris took to Instagram publicly, announcing a separation from his wife of almost 20 years, and later deconstructing his faith in Jesus Christ. Josh posted,

“I have undergone a massive shift in regard to my faith in Jesus. By all the measurements that I have for defining a Christian, I am not a Christian.”

Stephen Penn on behalf of Exploration Films said,

“Unfortunately, Josh did not tip off his film team partners of these surprising changes before his public post—nor how this would change our company’s distribution efforts of the film he had worked with us on to promote.”

Exploration Films president Steve Greisen reports,

“When director Jessica Van Der Wyngaard brought the film to us for distribution, she and Josh requested that a free version be available to the public for a period of time, highly unusual in our business, but we agreed. Regular interactions occurred with Josh and the film team on a daily and weekly basis to coordinate our efforts as part of the agreement. Exploration Films just finished recording a podcast with Josh slated for later release, so these statements only days later caught us off guard and damaged our efforts together.”

Stephen Penn affirmed,

“Personally, we still wish Josh the best. We know he is searching for answers. But due to the lack of transparency from Josh, we have no other choice but to halt promotion of the film. Hundreds of DVD’s have already been returned as a result of his statements.

Josh’s current position on Christianity counteracts his authority to speak on how Christians should approach relationships. Discussions of this nature happen throughout the film, and the former pastor’s public statements on marriage and especially Christianity undermine key parts of the film. It puts our team in an awkward position to promote it.”

In the film ISIKDG, Harris listens to readers impacted by what he got wrong—and right 20 years ago. He shares conversations with other authors and ministry leaders on today’s hook-up culture, Church pressure on purity, and the unintended outcomes many single and married Christians experience.

Exploration Films produces and distributes quality faith and family documentaries and feature films. The Colorado-based team says they strive to deliver inspiring content that elevates the culture, and evokes the best in the human soul.

Stephen concluded,

“Integrity in business is something that is very important for us.”

Academy Award winning actor Jon Voight in “Roe v. Wade” (2019)

March 22nd, 2019

A new film starring Jon Voight (Midnight Cowboy, Runaway Train, Heat), Nick Loeb (Precious Cargo), John Schneider (The Dukes of Hazzard, The Haves and Have Nots) and Stacy Dash (Clueless), tells the true story of how Norma McCorvey, commonly known as Jane Roe, was persuaded by lies and manipulation to sue the government for the right to have an abortion.

The script, co-written by Director and Actor Nick Loeb, was developed from actual court records in order to share the truth behind the case that has allowed the killing of more than 60 million American children.

Director Loeb told The Washington Post,

“I wanted to tackle this in a way where all sides of the story will be told, and the facts were laid out, and people can then make up their mind and decide on their own. I just think everybody should be armed with the facts, unlike when I was growing up.”

Corbin Bernsen (as Justice Blackmun)
Steve Guttenberg (as Justice Powell)

The film also features many other fine and well recognized actors, including Corbin Bernsen (as Justice Blackmun), William Forsythe (as Justice Stewart), Steve Guttenberg (as Justice Powell), Joey Lawrence, Stacey Dash, Robert Davi (as Justice Brennan), Mindy Robinson, Jamie Kennedy (as Larry Lader), Tom Guiry, and Wade Williams (as Justice Rehnquist).

Producers for the film include Alveda King (niece of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and daughter of civil rights activist Rev. A. D. King), Adi Cohen, Nick Loeb, and others.

ROE V. WADE centers around the famous abortionist Dr. Bernard Nathanson and Dr. Mildred Jefferson, the first African-American doctor to graduate from Harvard Medical School, as they square off in a national battle in this untold conspiracy that led to the most famous and controversial court case in history.

Nathanson conspires with NARAL founder Larry Lader and feminist Betty Friedan in the fight to legalize abortion on demand. Looking for a pawn to enact their plan, they discover Norma McCorvey, a broke, pregnant and uneducated girl, and persuade her to sue Dallas County for the right to an abortion.

length: 2 minutes

Lader is inspired by the work of Planned Parenthood Founder Margaret Sanger, who sought to reduce the growth of African-American populations in America. Together, he, Nathanson, and Friedan work tirelessly to inundate the public with pro-abortion ideas and fabricated false statistics to build support for their case and sway public sentiment, moving the idea of abortion from murder of the defenseless to an expression of a woman’s right.

In the meantime, Jefferson, an educated, African-American pro-life scholar and doctor, steps up, determined to save lives and her race with the help of Father James McHugh and Law Professor Robert Byrn.

ROE V. WADE tells the untold journey of the deceit and cruelty that created the most famous court case in all of history and the relentless fight to save America’s future generations.

Co-Producer Alveda King revealed,

“This is the real untold story of how mountains of lies led to an injustice that has deprived millions of people of human dignity and human rights. So much was twisted and turned around to pass Roe V. Wade. A lot of information has been misconstrued, and it has to come out.”

One of the sources for financing this film is crowdfunding through GoFundMe.

The filmmakers are hoping to release ROE V. WADE theatrically nationwide in Fall 2019. Audiences will get the first sneak peek of the film during an exclusive March 27, 2019 showing at the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Convention in Anaheim, California.

Director Loeb says,

“Our movie will not only shed a light on the truth, but it will also change hearts and minds.”

Based on a true story, “The Least of These” shares the remarkable life of Australian missionary Graham Staines, who on January 23, 1999 met an unexpected fate in India while faithfully serving the leper population. The film’s release date on February 1, 2019, coincides with the 20th anniversary of his martyrdom that shocked the world.

Shot on location near Hyderabad, India, “The Least of These” is told through the viewpoint of a fictional character, Manav Banerjee (Joshi), who moves with his pregnant wife to Orissa, India, seeking a job as a journalist with the local newspaper.

Christian actor Stephen Baldwin plays the part of missionary Graham Staines and Shari Rigby plays his wife Gladys—who served lepers of India

When speculation mounts that Graham Staines (Stephen Baldwin) is illegally proselytizing and converting leprosy patients to Christianity, Manav, hoping to make a better life for his new family, agrees to investigate undercover, hoping to catch Staines in the act.

What Manav finds is a series of revelations that are difficult to fathom and even harder to explain, forcing him to make a choice between his own ambition and the truth. In the end, a tragic event and a surprising reaction from the Staines family will change Manav forever.

Executive Producer Victor Abraham says,

The film is all about the power of love, hope and forgiveness to overcome hate.

In 2005, Graham’s wife Gladys Staines was awarded the 4th highest civilian honor in India, Padma Shree, in recognition for her work with leprosy patients in Odisha. In the film, Shari Rigby plays Gladys Staines. Rigby has appeared in 8 films including “OCTOBER BABY” (2012), “NOT TODAY” (2013) and “EXTRAORDINARY” (2017). She is also starring in the new Sherwood Pictures film “OVERCOMER” coming later this year.

Actor Sharman Joshi (playing Manav Banerjee) was born in Bombay, Maharashtra, India, and comes from a long line of actors and performing artists as a member of the Gujarati family. He is a notable Indian Cinema actor best known for “3 Idiots” (2009), “Rang De Basanti” (2006) and Golmaal: “Fun Unlimited” (2006).

The film features a companion soundtrack to be released based on the movie with exclusive songs by well-known artists including Michael W. Smith, Toby Mac and Nicole C. Mullen and Getty Music.

Kevin Sorbo in The Reliant

“The Reliant” is a faith-based, feature length action film made by Fervent House Media. It stars Kevin Sorbo, Brian Bosworth, Mollee Gray, Eric Roberts, Julia Denton and many others. The film was completed in the summer of 2018 and is seeking a distributor for 2019 theatrical release.

This motion picture drama tells the story of “an economic catastrophe that precipitates widespread rioting and social unrest across the nation, leaving a lovesick 21-year-old girl struggling to care for her siblings in a stretch of woods bordered by lawless anarchy, wondering why a good God would let this happen.”

According to Producer Dr. J.P. Johnston,

“Without a doubt, the most powerful way to influence the next generation is cinema. And not cheesy, B-rated ‘preachy’ movies that ‘preach to the choir,’ but powerfully engaging, unpredictable, realistic, relevant, unforgettable stories that will leave audiences changed and hungry for more.”

“THE RELIANT takes the hard questions head on. Questions like ‘Why do bad things happen to good people?’ In a winsome and entertaining, edge-of-your-seat fashion, questions are answered in a way that honors God, satisfies the conscience, and vindicates liberty.”

Dr. Johnston is a family practice physician and the founder of the Association of Pro-life Physicians (ProLifePhysicians.org). He has reportedly written 10 novels.

Submission of the film to the Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA) for rating, produced an unexpected result. The MPAA rated it “R” for some violence. The producer reports that the film does not glamorize violence, and it was specifically and carefully designed to easily receive a more favorable rating. Dr. Johnston believes the MPAA is biased, and is, in effect, trying to prevent the film’s success because it is not only faith-based, but also pro-2nd Amendment. Johnston suggests,

“That’s just more than the Hollywood elites can handle.”

“Yes, Kevin Sorbo’s character and his children use weapons to defend themselves from armed looters, but it is so much less violence than even many PG-13 action films. This is an entertaining but God-honoring film. We were so careful to prevent the ‘The Reliant’ from coming anywhere near an ‘R’ rating.”

The MPAA ruling is being appealed, and the producer is currently raising funds for this effort and for upcoming marketing costs (see Indiegogo page).

The film is directed by Paul Munger, with expert Director of Photography James Burgess—who himself has produced and directed hundreds of films, videos and TV commercials.

The music was composed by James Everingham and recorded at The Abbey Road Studios, London.

Kevin Sorbo

May 18th, 2018

Kevin Sorbo (“Let There Be Light,” “God’s Not Dead”) is set to star in “The Penitent Thief,” an adaptation of Don Willis’ best-selling novel of the same name. The film is currently in production and is scheduled for debut during the 2019 Easter season. The HISTORICAL FICTION DRAMA follows the journey of the two men who were crucified alongside Jesus. The film assumes the two could have been brothers and spins a story around how their lives could have intersected with some of the most notable figures in the Bible.

Actor Kevin Sorbo is an evangelical, nondenominational Christian who was raised in a Lutheran church. He says,

Historically, there is a lot we don’t know about the thieves by Jesus’ side. I applaud the film for its commitment to the biblical narrative, while allowing for imagination in areas where Scripture is silent. My hope is that the audience sees themselves in these characters and finds the same hope that the penitent thief did on the cross.

Actors James Russo (“Django Unchained,” “Donnie Brasco”), Jay Giannone (“Patriots Day,” “American Hustle”) and Stelio Savante (“Blood in the Water,” “Where the Road Runs Out”) will also have feature roles.

The faith-based film is co-directed and produced by Lucas Miles (Miles Media Films) and Jon Blaze, and written and executive produced by Don and Julia Willis (4:13 Films). Miles says,

The story of “The Penitent Thief” is all of our stories. Like the thief, we deserve eternal punishment, but thankfully through the cross, God has made a way for us to find redemption, forgiveness and grace. My hope is that this film leads people to experience the cross in a whole new way.
