Who is…
Shear-Jashub
also known as: Shearjashub
Hebrew: יָשׁוּב —transliteration: Shear Yashub —meaning: a remnant shall return (i.e., to God)
This is a symbolical name which the prophet Isaiah gave to his son, perhaps his eldest son.
Then Yahweh said to Isaiah, “Go out now to meet Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, to the highway of the fuller’s field, —Isaiah 7:3 LSB
Compare Isaiah 10:21…
A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. —Isaiah 10:21
In this name and promise, God was providing hope to the people of Israel, that although their temple was going to be destroyed, and they were going to be sent into exile, God would remain ultimately faithful in His covenant. He would deliver a remnant from Babylon and bring them back to their land. They are still His chosen people.
