Amram, father of Aaron and Moses
Amram is a son of Kohath and a grandson of the patriarch Levi, a son of Jacob/Israel.
In the land of Egypt, he married a relative named Jochebed, “his father’s sister” (Exo. 6:20).
Amram and Jochebed became the parents of Aaron, Miriam, and Moses (Exodus 6:18, 20; Numbers 3:19).
Amram died in Egypt at the age of 137 years (Exodus 6:20). His descendants are called Amramites (Numbers 3:27; 1 Chronicles 26:23).
-
Amram, a man mentioned by the Judean scribe Ezra
This Amram is an Israelite father whose sons are listed as having had forbidden foreign (KJV: “strange”) wives (Ezra 10:34).
In doing this, these men had been unfaithful to God, by marrying non-Israelite women of the peoples of the land—people who did not worship the one true God, but were idolatrous, bringing sinful ideas and practices into the children of Israel.
