Gadarenes

These are the inhabitants of the ancient city of Gadara (aka Gedera or Gedaris) which today is located in the nation of Jordan.

David Sider, Ph.D. (Professor of Classics), notes that Gadara produced numerous remarkable philosophers, writers and mathematicians (3rd century BC through 3rd century AD), but in spite of that—and of being large enough to boast two theatres, it saw all of these famous sons move to Greece and Italy in search of career opportunities.1
