Puah, the woman
Puah is one of the two midwives who feared God, and refused to kill the Hebrew male children at their birth as commanded by the Pharaoh of Egypt (Exodus 1:15-21).
Jewish tradition says that Puah was Miriam, the older sister of Moses and Aaron, and that the other midwife (Shiphrah/Shifra) was her mother Jochebed (Yocheved).
