Here’s what the distributor says about their film: A couple's first date takes an unexpected turn when a policeman pulls them over for a minor traffic violation. When the situation escalates, Slim takes the officer's gun and shoots him. Now labelled cop killers in the media, Slim and Queen feel that they have no choice but to go on the run and evade the law. When a video of the incident goes viral, the unwitting outlaws soon become a symbol of trauma, terror, grief and pain for people all across the country.

As they drive, these two unlikely fugitives will discover themselves and each other in the most dire and desperate of circumstances, and will forge a deep and powerful love that will reveal their shared humanity and shape the rest of their lives.

Joining a legacy of films such as “Bonnie and Clyde” and “Thelma & Louise,” “Queen & Slim” is a consciousness-raising love story that confronts the staggering human toll of racism and the life-shattering price of violence.”

Movie Critics
…leftist, Anti-American worldview… Race-baiting, politically correct, nonsensical mess… strong objectionable, abhorrent content…
Ted Baehr, Movieguide
…This movie’s heavy-handed message with regard to racism and injustice is impossible to miss. That message may resonate with some who share its harsh racial assumptions. But it’s also a narrative that can be fairly critiqued for delivering an inflammatory, divisive message rather than one that moves our cultural conversation toward love, healing or genuine racial reconciliation.
Bob Hoose, Plugged In
…a meme movie for Black Lives Matter fans… exploits the naïveté of Black Lives Matter filmgoers…
Armond White, National Review
…It fails as drama and, as a result, it ends up failing as political persuasion. …primarily an attempt at myth-making…
Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle
…A road trip that zigzags between the lyrical and the heavy-handed… The movie hits a clunky low with the unfortunate juxtaposition of a sex scene and a protest rally. The intercutting of sex and violence is something that Spielberg couldn’t pull off in “Munich,” and the gambit fares no better here, especially given that the rally, meant to bristle with powder-keg tension, instead comes off as camera-ready artifice. …
Sheri Linden, The Hollywood Reporter
…racially charged update of a familiar formula…
Joshua Rothkopf, Time Out Chicago
…an uneven braiding of the personal and the political… Queen & Slim so clumsily jumps between its main characters’ lovemaking and the anti-cop rally held in their honor that it cheapens both threads. The scene epitomizes the way that the film escalates its romantic and social images to extremes that cannot be reconciled…
Jake Cole, Slant Magazine
…too illogical to drive home its point… Ridiculous can’t sustain a two hour–plus running time, and the stronger the filmmakers stick with their fire-breathing idea, the more frustrating “Queen & Slim” becomes, stomping out any connection to a reality most of us would recognize.…
Kim Hughes, Original Cin
…blunt-force sermonising… At its weakest, “Queen & Slim” treats its potential love birds as strident symbols of racial inequality, hitting the audience over the head with obvious points and manipulative emotional beats. But that same unbridled fervour helps give the film its messy urgency. Driving around America looking for refuge, Queen and Slim realise what they’ve always secretly known: there’s no escape from bigotry. …
Tim Grierson, Screen Daily
…A road trip film that’s defined by The Woke Decade…
M.N. Miller, Ready Steady Cut
…consistently trades realism for contrivances… An overall lack of realism and a tendency toward romantic thinking, however, muddle its message. The movie burns with outrage, but its inability to express itself clearly can be maddening. …
