Bel is the Aramaic form of Baal (Ba'al), the national god of the Babylonians (Isa. 46:1; Jer. 50:2; 51:44).
It means “lord” or “master.”
Bel was used as a title for various Babylonian false gods, as well as those of Akkad and Assyria.
