Bezaleel

Hebrew: בְּצַלְאֵל —transliteration: Betsalel —meaning: in the shadow of God; i.e., “under his protection”

This is the name of two biblical men.

• Bezalel, a very skilled artificer who executed works of art for The Tabernacle in the wilderness (Exodus 31:2; 35:30)

  He was engaged principally in works of metal, wood, and stone; while Aholiab (aka Oholiab), who was associated with him and subordinate to him, had the charge of the textile fabrics (Exo. 36:1-2; 38:22).

  tribe of Judah, the son of Uri, and grandson of Hur (31:2).

• Bezalel, mentioned by Ezra in the book of Ezra

  and of the sons of Pahath-moab: Adna, Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui and Manasseh; —Ezra 10:30
