Reumah
also known as: Re'umah and Reuma
Hebrew: רְאוּמָה —transliteration: Reumah —meaning: exalted; raised; raised up; sublime
She was the concubine (pilegesh) of Nahor, Abraham’s eldest brother (Genesis 22:23, 24) who remained in Haran.
She bore him 4 sons: Tebah (aka Teba), Gaham, Thahash, and Maachah (aka Maakah).
Nahor’s total recorded offspring is 12, as his wife Milcah bore him 8 sons.
The Nahor geneology in which Reumah is mentioned is recorded immediately following the account of the binding of Isaac in Genesis 22. This placement is not random: it emphasizes the expansion of the Aramean branch of Terah’s family (Nahor and his descendants are associated with the region of Aram in northern Mesopotamia, around Haran/Paddan-Aram). This genealogy underscores themes of divine blessing and fruitfulness in Abraham’s extended kin, even as the narrative focus remains on Abraham’s line through Isaac.
Reumah was apparently from Aram/Syria and is mentioned only once in Scripture. She receives no biographical details—parentage, age, personality, actions, or fate. However, this is true of most minor biblical figures, else the Biblical record would be unnecessarily enormous.
