What is…
Baghdad
This is a major city in modern day Iraq. Iraq was formerly the Kingdom of Babylon (Babylonian Empire). Ancient Babylon ruins lie ~50-55 miles south of modern Baghdad.
Baghdad itself is not mentioned or named in the Bible, as it was not founded until 762 AD, long after biblical times. The nearest biblical city is Babylon whose ruins lie about 53–55 miles (85 km) south of modern Baghdad, near Hillah.
The region around Baghdad (central Iraq) was part of ancient Babylonia / Shinar — home to the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11), Babylon (e.g., Daniel, exile of Jews), and near sites like the Babel plain.
