Barak
Meaning: lightning
Barak is a son of Abinoam. Barak’s name appears in 12 verses in the book of Judges (Judges 4:6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 22; 5:1, 12, 15).
At the summons of Deborah he made war against Jabin. She accompanied him into the battle, and gave the signal for the little army to make the attack, in which the host of Jabin was completely routed.
The battle was fought (Judges 4:16) in the plain of Jezreel.
This deliverance of Israel is commemorated in Judges 5 where he sang a song on that day with Deborah.
Barak’s faith is commended (without details) in the New Testament.
