pigeons in the Bible

Pigeons are mentioned among the offerings which God specified that Abram present unto Him (Genesis 15:9).

In later years, young pigeons were listed among the Hebrews’ sin-offerings (Leviticus 1:14; 12:6), and the law provided that those who could not afford to offer a lamb may offer 2 young pigeons instead (Leviticus 5:7; 12:8; compare Luke 2:24).

When raised in captivity, pigeons were housed in dovecotes.
