Accountability

—by Bob J. Pennello, age 35

“I hope this will help the 19 year old anonymous writer.”

I too have and am struggling with pornography. Things have been a lot better since I have told my closest friends, starting with my wife. I deceived her for so long, and I know what it feels like to have something eat away at you like that. The hole seems bigger and bigger every day.

After telling her, she was hurt, and now she can help me. It also made it easier to tell others. Your secret will stay dark until you get it out into the light! It may take some time, but constant exposure to the light will drive the darkness away. Hang out with good Christian, non-judging friends who love you because God loves you. Get into the Word daily. Talk to your friends, and tell them what you are going through. They will pray for you. That is the only way I have made it through my situation.

I still may fall, but I can turn to so many people right now that will listen and pray for me. God will give you the strength to get through everything, but you need to rely on Him, not on your own strength. We do not have the strength to stand the wiles of the devil, but no one is stronger than our Dad. God be with you.
