Dark comedy / political satire
Super-rich and powerful oil-baron capitalist causes monumental arctic ice collapse, giant icebergs, catastophic tsunamis, and climate disasters.
Who is Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu? He is a Mexico City born progressive liberal, secular humanist, and climate alarmist who criticizes nationalism, corporate power, and parts of capitalism. He has said the real criminals are the people who create banks, not those who rob them. He criticizes global corporations as having more power than countries. He called the violence and worldview of many superhero films “right-wing” (rich, powerful figures who kill the “bad”). He has repeatedly attacked Trump-era nationalism, the border wall, and illegal immigrant policy. He opposes the Argentine President Javier Milei who is seen as populist, right-wing libertarian, and conservative.
Iñárritu is an environmental moralist of a familiar Hollywood-left type. In 2019 at UNAM he claimed that the environmental crisis is as obvious as the Earth being round, that it is baffling when powerful leaders deny climate change. He said he had been working on a project about the environment and “the human behavior that is taking us toward extinction,” and he named Greta Thunberg as an inspiration. He also appeared in Leonardo DiCaprio’s 2016 climate alarmist documentary “Before the Flood.”
