Beeroth
also known as: Be'eroth
Hebrew: בְּאֵרוֹת —transliteration: Beeroth —meaning: wells or springs —occurrences: 5 in Joshua, books of Samuel, Ezra and Nehemiah
Beeroth is one of the 4 cities of the Hivites that fraudulently entered into a peace covenant with Joshua. The 3 cities are Gibeon, Chephirah, and Kiriath-jearim (aka Kirjath-jearim) (Josh. 9:17)
Later, Beeroth belonged to the Tribe of Benjamin (Joshua 18:25).
At the end of the Babylonian Captivity, 743 Israelites who had been from the cities of either Beeroth, Kiriath-arim, or Chephirah returned to Judea (Ezra 2:25).
