What is…
Chisleu

also known as: Chislev or Kislev

This is the name adopted from the Babylonians by the Jews after the Captivity for the third civil, or ninth ecclesiastical, month (Neh. 1:1; Zechariah 7:1).

It corresponds nearly with the moon in November.

The Jewish festival of Hanukkah is celebrated during this month and is also known as the Festival of Lights. It commemorates the recovery of Jerusalem and subsequent rededication of the Second Temple.
