Meaning: dunghill

This ancient city appears to be located at the modern Menois (aka el-Minyay), 15 miles south-southwest of Gaza (Joshua 15:31; 1 Chronicles 2:49), in the south of the tribal lands of Judah.

Its mentioned in the book of Joshua in a section where the inheritance of the children of Judah is detailed after Israel’s conquest of the land of Canaan. It is named along with various other cities and their villages in Judah’s far south:
