“Loving husband. Devoted father. Ruthless killer.”

Copyrighted, Millennium Films

Here’s what the distributor says about their film: “Inspired by actual events, The Iceman follows notorious contract killer Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon) from his early days in the mob until his arrest for the murder of more than 100 men. Appearing to be living the American dream as a devoted husband and father; in reality Kuklinski was a ruthless killer-for-hire. When finally arrested in 1986, neither his wife nor daughters have any clue about his real profession.

THE ICEMAN is the electrifying true story of Richard Kuklinski: loving husband, devoted father, ruthless killer. The notorious mob contract killer and family man is believed to have killed more than 250 people between 1954 and 1985. He earned his nickname by freezing the bodies of his victims, disguising the time of death, and throwing police off-track. He was a man who used his tendencies toward violence and detachment from consequence to create an idyllic family life. His family and neighbors believed he was an average businessman, having no idea about his deadly alternate life. He reportedly never felt remorse for anything he had done, except hurting his family.”

This dramatisation of the life of Mob assassin, Richard Kuklinski, leaves one feeling in need of a deep clean… [3/5]
Jenny McCartney, The Telegraph [UK]
The Iceman cometh (but you won’t care)… It’s notable for Michael Shannon’s powerful performance… Doesn't really melt the heart… [3/5]
Christopher Tookey, Daily Mail [UK]
…Chilling portrait of the evil that men do… Michael Shannon's brooding performance as a merciless hit man is spot-on. …
Claudia Puig, USA Today
…The great failing of “The Iceman” is not in giving us a monster, but in not making us care…
Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times
…Goodfellas meets Zodiac… hitman drama keeps a tough grip on your attention, but fails to make its protagonist interesting, let alone sympathetic… [3/5]
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian (UK)
…mesmerizing portrayal… If the narrow biographical focus of “The Iceman” prevents it from being a great crime movie, on its own more modest terms it is an indelible film that clinches Mr. Shannon’s status as a major screen actor.
Stephen Holden, The New York Times
…Michael Shannon is lethally brilliant… Shannon hits a whole other level…
Joe Neumaier, New York Daily News
…This solemn, blood-soaked thriller lacks the dynamism of its star, but is an impressive showcase for him nonetheless: it’’s as hard to look away from Shannon’’s performance as it is to look directly at it. [3/5]
Guy Lodge, Empire
…[1½/4]…
