ABOUT THE SERIES: In this beautifully animated series of Old Testament Bible stories attention to scriptural detail is good overall, but there are discrepancies in some episodes (most of which are very minor). Always compare a video Bible story to the actual Bible account and point out any differences, especially to younger viewers. Bible knowledge should be based on the infallible word of God, not on a video producer’s screenplay of a Biblical account.

The story of Abraham and Isaac (and Sarah, Hagar, and Ishmael) is uncomfortable for most parents to recount to their children. This is one of those stories that most adults would rather not spend too much time discussing with youngsters. But that fact is exactly what makes this top-quality video so valuable. By combining high quality animation with a logically enhanced depiction of Genesis 16-22, this emotion-packed video delicately shows how the barren Sarah may have justified sending her servant Hagar to Abraham to bear Ishmael. It also depicts the stark contrast between the selfish heart of Ishmael and his younger half-brother, Isaac.

Most important, it effectively communicates the devastating task that confronted Abraham—to offer his beloved son Isaac as a blood sacrifice to God. This true story emphasizes the importance of unwavering obedience to God. Very good overall. Includes an excellent music score!
