“Inspired by a true story / It’s never too late to chase a dream.”

Here’s what the distributor says about their film: “POMS is a comedy about a diverse group of women who form a cheerleading squad at their retirement community to fulfill their lifelong dreams, proving that you’re never too old to ‘bring it!’ Diane Keaton plays the woman who starts the club.”

Negative
Negative—Extremely anti-Christian content; Diane Keaton is her usual officious, self-righteous non-believer. She scorns all things Christian. The script is the usual one for her: misandrist, hateful toward the God-fearing “fools” who actually prepare for death in a prayerful manner. Keaton’s star in this movie seems to believe that a hedonistic end is the way to exit this life. No mention of trying to get right with God. God is irrelevant to POMS.

Negative—Mum and I saw this film as a treat for Mother’s Day. The big let-down was that the profanities were frequent and jarring, especially at the beginning, and usually using the precious names of God and Jesus Christ. It had far more sex references than were necessary. Though we could relate to many common human struggles, overall it was godless and promoted many bad or apathetic attitudes.

We liked some aspects such as the elderly people’s wonderful faces and bravery, and the friendship themes. It was rather funny in parts. Another good thing was a strong young role-model who had respect for elders even to the point of costly sacrifice.

So, while I don’t think it’s very edifying viewing, if you can tolerate the negatives, you may still enjoy most of it.
